Unité d'Habitation

Inspirations

"As an architect, visiting the Unité is like coming home," says Cany Ash of Ash Sakula Architects. She chose the Unité d'Habitation in Marseille, France, as her inspiration. "So much of it feels familiar. Yet there's a continuing sense of absolute wonder at how on earth Le Corbusier brought myriad different threads and uses together into this perfect synthesis. It's magic."

Completed in 1952, the Marseille Unité is known locally as the 'House of the Crazies'. There are three other Unités in France and another in Berlin.
