Mourners' Shelter

latest work

John Puttick Associates designed a mourners' shelter at the entrance to North Watford Cemetery in Hertfordshire. The single-storey design, with its cedar shingle-clad structure and 10m-long curved bench, is intended to create a sense of calm and warmth, encouraging visitors to sit in small groups prior to attending funeral services. Two circular rooflights allow pools of natural light from above. The shelter adjoins a 1930's lodge that has been refurbished as part of the project.
