Maison Louis Carré

Inspirations

This seminal house designed by Alvar Aalto is located in Bazoches-sur-Guyonne, just outside Paris. Completed in 1959, it was chosen by Belgian architect Marie-José van Hee as her inspiration.

In the book 50 Architects 50 Buildings, she says: "I don't yet know all the ways in which my work will be influenced by Maison Louis Carré. This house overcomes you and goes right into your inner map, your personal library, and you never know how it will come out again, until it does".
