Gareth Gardner Gallery

cultural

Architect Studio C102 refurbished an existing creative unit in Deptford, SE London, to create my new flexible workspace and gallery. The space was designed to be inherently practical and robust, subverted by colourful elements in pink and yellow. The gallery hosts a programme of exhibitions dedicated to photography of architecture and the man-altered landscape.

The design was inspired by art storage warehouses and features architectural elements fabricated from scaffolding, mesh and Valchromat solid surface. A full-height mesh screen divides the gallery from studio workspace, allowing daylight into the rear while providing a hanging surface for artworks.

Flexibility is inherent in the design, with a demountable work table and stacking chairs, while a vintage floor-standing enlarger has been repurposed as a digital display.
