I was recently in the Kent seaside town of Herne Bay, and took the opportunity to explore the derelict Pier Head.

The pier was opened in 1899 and was originally more than 1.1km long. Unfortunately, it was severely damaged by storm in 1978 and largely dismantled two years later. Today there remains a significant landward 'stub' with the usual seaside offerings as well as numerous pop-up shops and eateries. It's a different story for the landing stage, marooned more than a kilometre out to sea and a home for seagulls.
